The Type 89 Grenade Discharger was a Japanese 50mm lightweight mortar used during World War II, often incorrectly called the knee mortar by Allied forces. It fired a variety of high-explosive and illumination shells out to ranges of 650 meters. The weapon could be operated by a single soldier and was highly portable.
