Overview

The Valmet M76 is a Finnish assault rifle designed and manufactured by Valmet. It was a development of the earlier Valmet M62 and was based on the Kalashnikov action. The M76 features a stamped steel receiver instead of the milled receiver of its predecessor. It was chambered in 7.62x39mm and later 5.56x45mm NATO for export models. The rifle was standard issue for the Finnish Defence Forces through the Cold War. It is known for its high manufacturing quality and accurate cold-hammer forged barrel.
