The Steyr IWS 2000 is a semi-automatic anti-materiel rifle designed and manufactured by Steyr Mannlicher of Austria. Chambered for a proprietary 15.2x169mm armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) cartridge, it was developed specifically to engage lightly armored vehicles, radar installations, and other high-value material targets at extended ranges. The rifle features a smoothbore barrel to optimize the performance of its unique fin-stabilized projectile, and employs a long-recoil action with a hydraulically damped barrel assembly to manage the tremendous recoil forces generated by the cartridge. Although highly innovative, the IWS 2000 never entered full-scale military service due to the end of the Cold War and the limited commercial market for such a specialized weapon system.
