Steyr AUG

The Steyr AUG (Armee-Universal-Gewehr, 'Army Universal Rifle') is an Austrian bullpup assault rifle that revolutionized infantry weapon design through its modular, compact architecture. Conceived as a universal weapon platform for the Austrian Bundesheer, it blends a short overall length with a full-length barrel via the bullpup configuration, enhancing maneuverability without sacrificing ballistic performance. Key innovations include a synthetic polymer stock housing the action, a quick-change barrel system for tactical flexibility, and an integrated optical sight (typically a 1.5x or 3x scope) built into the carry handle. The AUG's selective-fire control is uniquely integrated into a two-stage trigger: a short pull for semiautomatic fire and a longer pull for full automatic, eliminating the need for a conventional fire selector lever. Its gas-operated, rotating-bolt action with a short-stroke piston ensures reliability in adverse conditions, while the ambidextrous ejection port (by swapping the bolt head) accommodates left-handed shooters.
