
The Spencer 1860 is a repeating rifle designed by Christopher Miner Spencer that used a unique seven-round detachable tubular magazine loaded through the buttstock. It was the first successful military repeating rifle adopted by the United States and saw extensive service during the Civil War. The Spencer used a lever-action that operated a rotating block mechanism.
