The Mosin-Nagant M44 is a carbine variant of the Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifle, introduced by the Soviet Union in 1944. It features a 20.3-inch barrel, a permanently attached folding bayonet, and a 5-round internal magazine. The M44 was designed for cavalry, artillery crews, and close-quarters combat during World War II. It fires the same 7.62x54mmR cartridge as the full-length M91/30 but with a shorter barrel and a side-mounted cruciform bayonet. The M44 produced significantly more muzzle flash and recoil than its longer predecessor, earning it the nickname the Mighty Muzzle Brake.
