The SIG Sauer P220 is a semi-automatic pistol first produced by SIG Sauer in Switzerland in 1975. It was the first of the legendary P220 series and served as the basis for the later P225, P226, P228, and P229 models. The SIG Sauer SP2022 is a polymer-framed, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol designed and manufactured by SIG Sauer. It was introduced in 2003 as a replacement for the SIG Sauer P228 and P229 in certain roles. The SP2022 features a modular design with interchangeable grip panels and a Picatinny accessory rail. It is chambered primarily in 9x19mm Parabellum, with variants available in .40 S&W and .357 SIG. The pistol has been adopted by military and law enforcement agencies worldwide, including the French Armed Forces.

The SIG Sauer P228 is a compact version of the P226, chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. It was developed as a smaller carry alternative for military and law enforcement users who needed a more concealable sidearm. The P228 features a reduced slide length and a shorter grip frame compared to the P226. It retains the same double-action/single-action trigger system and decocking lever. The pistol became the standard sidearm of the United States military under the designation M11.
