The Model 1876 featured a larger and stronger receiver than the Model 1873, with a heavier barrel and a longer magazine tube. It was the first Winchester lever-action designed for big-game hunting cartridges. The rifle was popular among hunters, frontiersmen, and ranchers in the American West.
