M40A5

DISCONTINUED
Overview

The M40A5 is a bolt-action sniper rifle used by the United States Marine Corps. It is the fifth major variant of the M40 series, which has been the USMC's standard sniper rifle since the Vietnam War. The M40A5 added a detachable box magazine and a threaded barrel for suppressor use, addressing two major limitations of earlier M40 variants. It retains the Remington 700-based action and heavy barrel that have defined the M40 series. The rifle is chambered in .308 Winchester and is built on a modified Remington 700 short-action receiver.
