The Austrian Model 1798 was a .70 caliber smoothbore flintlock musket that became the standard infantry weapon of the Habsburg Empire. It featured a robust walnut stock and a simplified lock mechanism based on the French Model 1777. The weapon was designed for durability in the hands of massed infantry formations.
