The M79 is a single-shot, break-action, shoulder-fired 40mm grenade launcher adopted by the U.S. military in 1961. Known as the 'Thumper' or 'Blooper', it provided infantry squads with direct and indirect fire support using high-explosive, smoke, and illumination rounds.
