The L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle is a licensed variant of the FN FAL manufactured in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth nations. It was the standard service rifle of the British Army from 1954 until 1994. The L1A1 is chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO and is a semi-automatic only design, lacking the selective fire capability of the original FN FAL. The rifle features a distinctive side-folding cocking handle and a bipod on some models. It earned the nickname the Right Arm of the Free World alongside the original FAL.
