Marlin Firearms Company

The Marlin Model 1898 was a lever-action repeating shotgun chambered in 12, 16, and 20 gauge. It used a solid-top receiver and a tubular magazine beneath the barrel. The design was an adaptation of Marlin's successful Model 1893 lever-action rifle platform.

The Marlin Model 16 was a specialized 16 gauge lever-action shotgun built on a scaled down version of the Marlin 1888 action. It was designed to offer a lighter, faster handling alternative to the standard 12 gauge guns of the era. The Model 16 represented Marlin's effort to capture the growing 16 gauge market segment.

The Marlin Model 1888 was John Marlin's first entry into the lever-action shotgun market. It featured a distinctive side-loading gate and a strong, reliable action based on Marlin's rifle designs. The shotgun was designed to compete directly with the Winchester 1887 for market share.
