Burnside Rifle Company (Providence, RI)

The Burnside Carbine was a .54 caliber breech-loading carbine designed by Ambrose Burnside, later a Union general. It used a unique brass cartridge case that expanded to seal the breech upon firing. The carbine was used extensively by Union cavalry during the American Civil War.
