The XM25 CDTE is a semi-automatic, magazine-fed grenade launcher that fires 25mm programmable airburst munitions developed by Heckler & Koch and Alliant Techsystems for the United States Army. The weapon's integrated laser rangefinder and fire control computer allow soldiers to program the exact distance at which the round will detonate, enabling engagement of targets behind cover or within enclosed spaces. It fires a 25x40mm low-velocity grenade from a 4-round box magazine and features a bullpup layout to keep the overall length manageable for individual infantry use. Though highly effective in combat trials in Afghanistan, the program was canceled in 2017 due to reliability issues and budget constraints.
